How Do I Download Instagram Highlights?

By DownSta · Updated October 29, 2026.

An Instagram Highlight is a collection of Stories, so saving one picture does not save the whole collection. Open the Highlight, copy its link and use DownSta to choose the public photos and videos you have permission to keep.

A Highlight is more than its cover

The small cover on someone's profile is just the entrance to a Highlight. Inside, it may contain several photos, several videos or a mixture of both. A download of the cover image is not a backup of those Stories.

Instagram lets people keep Stories in Highlights after the original Story disappears. They stay there until the owner removes them, and the Story's audience settings still matter. A Highlight is not automatically public just because it appears on a profile you can view. Instagram's explanation of Story Highlights.

That distinction matters when choosing a link. An active Story, a Highlight collection and a profile page are different inputs. For a current Story that has not been added to a Highlight, use the Story download guide instead.

How to save a public Highlight with DownSta

  1. Open the profile in Instagram, then open the Highlight you want.
  2. Use the Highlight's sharing or options menu to copy its link. On the web, check that the address belongs to the opened Highlight rather than just the profile.
  3. Paste the link into DownSta and select Download.
  4. Review the returned items. Choose a photo or video and select Download, or use the available bulk option for several items.
  5. Open the files from your browser's downloads and check that you kept the parts you wanted.

A standard collection address contains /stories/highlights/ followed by its numeric ID. DownSta also recognizes supported Instagram /s/ Highlight share links. Copy the actual link from Instagram rather than trying to construct an ID yourself. If a shortened link fails, try the collection address shown when the Highlight is open in a browser.

Check a collection before calling it a backup

Suppose a travel Highlight contains a map image, two videos and a final photo. You need four media files, not one cover and not just the first video. Compare the returned items with the parts you intended to save. Keep them in a folder for that Highlight so the files do not get mixed with another collection.

DownSta returns up to 50 items in a Highlight search. For a longer collection, do not assume the visible results represent every Story. The bulk option saves the returned files separately; it does not create a ZIP or stitch videos together. Your browser may ask whether to allow multiple downloads.

Play each saved video and check sound as well as picture. A media file does not preserve an interactive poll, a clickable sticker or the surrounding profile. If you need a record of context, keep your own note of the creator, collection name and date alongside the files.

For your own Highlights, start with Archive

If you are saving your own material, check Instagram's Stories Archive for the individual Stories. Open a Story there, use its options and choose Save photo or Save video. This is especially useful when you know which Story you need and do not want to download a whole public collection. Instagram's Archive help.

For account-wide preservation, read our export guide and check what the export actually contains. Keep your original recordings when you still have them.

A Highlight removed by its owner cannot be recovered through its old public link. A private Highlight also stays private: DownSta does not use your follower access. If a public collection remains available but a download fails, make a fresh search and use the download troubleshooting steps. Ask the creator before republishing their material.
