About DownSta and Our Editorial Method
DownSta publishes a browser-based tool and practical guides for saving Instagram media that you own or are authorized to save. The DownSta operator maintains the tool and publishes these guides. DownSta is independent of Instagram, Meta and the other services discussed here.
What our guides contribute
We explain the actual sequence from a post link to a saved file: choosing a media item, checking dimensions, preserving carousel order and locating downloads on a device. Our illustrations are original interface diagrams. The quality guide includes a local file inspector so you can check your own image or video without uploading it.
How we check a claim
- DownSta behavior: inspect the interface and implementation, run deterministic tests, and perform a dated production sample when checking delivery. A successful sample establishes that sample’s result, not a universal success rate.
- Other providers: identify the exact domain and read its published product, pricing or support information. We distinguish these statements from our own observations. We do not turn a provider’s marketing description into a tested performance claim.
- Device instructions: consult browser or device-vendor documentation. Menus and storage locations can differ by version and user settings.
- Translations: keep the same instructions, measurements and source links across the six supported guide languages. Policy and publisher information is shared in English.
Our October 17, 2026 delivery check
A production test of a public Reel returned one video result reporting 1080 × 1920 dimensions and a JPEG thumbnail. The preview and file endpoints responded successfully; the saved response was a 20,247,681-byte MP4 with a valid MP4 signature. The public evidence contains response properties, not a creator’s media, submitted identifiers or active download links.
Read the test measurements. This was not an audio-quality test, a comparison of provider speeds or an independent security certification.
A complete carousel delivery check
We also tested a three-image public carousel. Resolve, preview, individual download and Download all succeeded. All three bulk responses were JPEGs; encoded dimensions were 4096 × 4096 for one and 4096 × 4095 for two. The three files totaled 10,653,067 bytes. The carousel guide explains how to compare result counts and use the configured file-size limits.
How to read an Alternative comparison
Our Alternative guides address different decisions: browser versus installed app, local files versus a cloud archive, source dimensions versus plan labels, and original post links versus provider shortcuts. We link the exact provider domain reviewed. A provider-published feature is not a result of our own download test. Worked examples describe checks you can repeat; they are not invented competitor measurements.
On October 29, 2026, we rechecked the eight linked provider pages, added task-specific switching decisions in all six guide languages, corrected outdated button instructions and expanded the troubleshooting workflow. Our October 17 delivery measurements below retain their original test date.
Maintenance and corrections
On October 17, 2026, we completed the five missing guide translations, consolidated overlapping avatar, private-content, bulk-download and overlapping phone answers into relevant guides, checked provider documentation and aligned download and privacy statements with the implementation. Review dates indicate an editorial check, rather than a guarantee that a third-party service will remain unchanged.
