How to Download an Entire Instagram Carousel Post
A carousel is the Instagram post format with multiple swipable items, up to twenty of them, mixing photos and videos in one post. This guide shows how to save the full set from a single public post link: every item listed, each with its own quality options, downloaded in order.

Step 1: Copy the carousel's post link
Every carousel has one permanent link, the same link you would send a friend. In the app, open the post, tap the share control or the three-dot menu, and choose Copy link. In a browser, copy the URL from the address bar. It looks like https://www.instagram.com/p/XXXXXXXXXXX/.
You do not need a separate link per item. Resolving the post link returns the whole carousel.
Step 2: Resolve the post in the downloader
Open the DownSta posts downloader, paste the link, and choose Find media. The result lists each carousel item separately, numbered in posting order, with a preview for each. Photos and videos are labeled by type, so you can see the shape of the post at a glance.
Step 3: Download one item, several, or the whole set
Each item has its own quality list, with the largest variant Instagram exposes for that item recommended first. Videos in a carousel typically resolve as MP4; photos resolve as JPEG. Two approaches:
- Individually: open the item, pick the quality, download. Best when you only want a few images from a long carousel.
- Bulk: use the download-all flow, which prepares every item in one action. Very large sets may exceed the bulk size limit; if that happens, download the remaining items individually.
Files are named with the account and item position, so the set stays in carousel order in your downloads folder.
Why item 1 might be a different resolution than item 2
Each carousel item keeps its own aspect ratio and its own set of stored variants. A post mixing portrait photos, square crops, and a vertical video will show different size labels per item, and that is expected. The downloader can only offer the variants Instagram exposes for each item; there is no universal maximum. The details are in Instagram Photo and Video Quality, Explained.
Carousels versus Stories versus Highlights
People sometimes call any multi-image post a "story". In Instagram's model they are different formats with different links: carousels are permanent posts, Stories are 24-hour ephemeral items, and Highlights are saved Stories pinned to a profile. The workflow above is for carousel posts. For the other two, use the Stories downloader or Highlights downloader.
Troubleshooting
- Only one item resolved. Some posts look like carousels but are a single collage image or a video montage uploaded as one file. The result list reflects what the post actually contains.
- An item fails to download. Resolve the post again; temporary links expire quickly, and one item failing does not invalidate the rest.
- The whole post is unavailable. The account may be private, the post deleted, or Instagram not exposing it outside the app at that moment. No downloader can legitimately bypass that.
Respect the creator
A carousel is a curated set someone built. Saving it for personal reference is your call; republishing, editing, or selling any item requires permission or another lawful basis. Start with Reposting Instagram Content: Copyright Basics for Creators.
